Patrick Witt has stepped down from his role as executive director of the White House Crypto Council after his federal assignment expired. In an email statement to The Block, a White House official confirmed the exit, stating that the administration appreciates Witt's time and service and wishes him well in future endeavors.[4][5][8][13]

Witt confirmed his departure in a statement on X, describing his two years in the administration as the privilege of a lifetime and indicating plans to move into the private sector. In his statement, Witt noted his collaboration with administration officials and lawmakers on the passage of the GENIUS Act and efforts to advance the CLARITY Act. Prior reporting by Eleanor Terrett indicated Witt's temporary assignment from the Defense Department had reached its end and that he was expected to resume service in the Georgia National Guard.[2][4][7][9][12]

The White House has not yet announced a successor for Witt, who was the second executive director to lead the council following Bo Hines's departure for Tether in August 2025. Witt's exit follows the departures of council officials David Sacks and Harry Jung, leaving the body without remaining staff. The leadership vacancy comes at a critical juncture for U.S. digital asset regulation, as the CLARITY Act remains stalled in the Senate while the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission continue regulating crypto under existing authorities.[1][2][3][6][10][11]
