Grayscale published a research note crediting Zcash's built-in 20% block reward allocation for supporting nearly a decade of continuous development, according to reports from Crypto Briefing and crypto media commentators. The asset manager highlighted that embedding research and development funding directly into the protocol has allowed Zcash to foster sustained innovation while shaping long-term network security economics and governance perceptions.[1][2][3]

Under Zcash's reward structure, miners receive 80% of block rewards, while the remaining 20% is routed into developer funding, broken down into 8% for community grants and 12% for a development lockbox. Unlike many blockchain networks that rely on outside venture capital, Zcash has funded its own ongoing technical work, including privacy pool enhancements such as the new Ironwood privacy pool featuring quantum-recoverable addresses.[1][3]

The analysis arrives as Zcash approaches its 10th anniversary on October 28. Despite ZEC dropping roughly 25% across October, Grayscale's dedicated Zcash Trust has attracted $41.09 million in net inflows over the period.[1]

🚨ZCASH KEEPS INNOVATING WITH BUILT-IN DEV FUND! @Grayscale just published a note saying Zcash has continued evolving for 10 years because it builds R&D funding directly into the protocol. Miners take 80% of block rewards while 20% goes to a Dev Fund. Most chains rely on venture capital. Zcash is one of the few that doesn’t, using that capital for privacy pool upgrades including the new Ironwood pool with quantum-recoverable addresses. That ongoing support is a key reason zcash:native has kept shipping through multiple market cycles.
