Aptos launches encrypted mempool on mainnet to counter MEV bots
Aptos has introduced an opt-in Encrypted Mempool on its mainnet, concealing transaction payloads until consensus ordering is finalized to prevent front-running and sandwich attacks.

Aptos has launched an opt-in Encrypted Mempool on its mainnet to shield users from maximal extractable value tactics such as front-running and sandwich attacks, according to reports from The Block and BSCNews. The protocol-native feature conceals trade details while transactions are sequenced, preventing automated bots from inspecting pending orders and trading ahead of them.[1][2][4][5]
Users opt in through compatible wallets and applications, encrypting payloads on the client side using keys jointly produced by the validator set each epoch. Block leaders order transactions blind to trade amounts, target smart contracts, function calls, and arguments. The contents are reconstructed and executed only after consensus is finalized. Sender wallet addresses and fees remain visible, and encrypted transactions cost twice the network's minimum gas fee.[1][2][4]
The privacy design relies on Aptos's core consensus assumptions, meaning no individual validator or group below the two-thirds honest-stake threshold can decrypt a pending transaction alone. Ecosystem rollout is already underway, with Petra wallet supporting the feature at launch and decentralized perpetuals exchange Decibel preparing to integrate it next.[1][3][4]
Key facts
- Aptos launched an opt-in Encrypted Mempool on mainnet to protect traders from front-running and sandwich attacks.
- Transaction payloads, amounts, and smart contract calls are encrypted client-side and remain hidden until validators finalize transaction ordering.
- Sender wallet addresses and gas fees stay visible on encrypted transactions.
- Encrypted transactions cost twice the network's minimum gas fee.
- Decryption requires reaching the network's two-thirds honest-stake threshold, preventing any single validator from revealing pending transaction data alone.
- Petra wallet currently supports the encrypted mempool feature, and perpetuals exchange Decibel plans to add support next.

THE BLOCK: Aptos has launched an opt-in encrypted mempool on its mainnet, allowing users to conceal transaction details until a block is finalized to help protect against MEV attacks, including front-running and sandwich attacks. The protocol-native feature encrypts transaction payloads while validators order transactions, with the contents decrypted only after consensus is reached; sender addresses and gas fees remain visible.

Aptos Takes Aim at Frontrunning With Encrypted Transactions Aptos (@Aptos) aptos:native has launched Encrypted Mempool on mainnet to help protect traders from frontrunning and sandwich attacks. Encrypted Mempool is an optional service that will hide transaction data until the validators agree on the transaction order. Users can opt in through compatible wallets and apps before submitting transactions. Per reports, wallet address and gas fees are not encrypted, whereas transaction amount and smart contracts remain so. This comes at additional expense, with encrypted transactions costing twice as much as the minimum gas fee of the network.

Aptos users can now hide their trades from front-running bots @Aptos switched on Encrypted Mempool on mainnet today, letting users opt in to keep transaction details hidden until the block is final. That lowers the risk of MEV bots spotting an order and trading ahead of it. The sender and fee stay visible, and no single validator can decrypt a pending transaction alone. Petra wallet (@PetraWallet) already supports it, with perps exchange Decibel (@DecibelTrade) planning to follow.
