Amazon is reportedly in negotiations to acquire AI startup Decart for around $7 billion, a move that could strengthen its proprietary Trainium chip ecosystem and video generation capabilities.

Amazon is in negotiations to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart in a deal that could be valued at approximately $7 billion, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. While multiple outlets noted that advanced discussions are taking place, no transaction has been formally announced by either company.[11][7][6][10]

Decart specializes in software that enables developers to transition workloads between different AI chips, alongside real-time video creation and editing technologies behind products like Lucy and Oasis. The startup's capabilities target use cases including robotics, 3D simulation, gaming, and online shopping. Its software is already available to Amazon cloud customers and operates on Amazon's proprietary AI hardware.[1][8][4][5][12][13]

The acquisition could help Amazon expand utilization of its Trainium chips and counter Nvidia's ecosystem lock-in by making it simpler for developers to switch hardware architectures. Decart reportedly increased real-time video processing performance from roughly 26 frames per second on GPUs to about 101 frames per second on Trainium. The reported $7 billion valuation marks a significant jump from Decart's nearly $4 billion valuation in May, following previous acquisition talks with Anthropic and Nvidia that did not result in a deal.[3][9][5][8][7][2]
