Tether is relaunching its USDT stablecoin on the Bitcoin network in October 2026 through Utexo, a Tether-backed Bitcoin payments infrastructure project, according to reports from CoinDesk and crypto media outlets. Built on RGB technology and Bitcoin's UTXO model, the integration is designed to support private USDT transfers, direct BTC-USDT swaps, and loans backed by Bitcoin without requiring users to wrap their BTC.[1][3][5][6]

Utexo co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk said the company has secured a commercial license to issue USDT on Bitcoin, as reported by Wu Blockchain. The project will provide cloud infrastructure, APIs, and software development kits for exchanges, wallets, and payment providers while keeping most transaction data off Bitcoin's public ledger. Utexo also plans to expand USDT support to the Lightning Network following its initial Bitcoin release.[3][4][5][6]

The rollout marks a return to USDT's original launch platform. USDT first debuted on Bitcoin via the Omni Layer protocol in 2014 before Ethereum and Tron became its primary networks. According to Coin Bureau, USDT currently has about $184 billion in circulation.[3][5][6]
