Tesla will begin winding down production of the Cybertruck at its Texas Gigafactory around the middle of next year, CEO Elon Musk announced in a post on X. According to Musk, the manufacturing change is designed to make room for increased production of the Cybercab at the same facility.[4][5][1]

The Financial Times reported that the carmaker is axing the pickup as Musk redirects Tesla's attention toward robotics and artificial intelligence, with other reports pointing to soft pickup demand alongside the company's sharper focus on robotaxis.[7][6][2]

Reacting to the news, tech commentator Robert Scoble argued the pivot makes financial sense for investors, contrasting a $30,000 price tag for the Cybercab against $91,000 for the Cybertruck and asserting that the Cybercab offers the lowest cost per mile of any vehicle.[3]

Giving up Cybertruck makes sense for investors. Elon just announced he is winding down Cybertruck. Cybercab will make Tesla a lot more money. Cybercab: $30,000. Cybertruck: $91,000. Cybercab will kick money back to its owner for maybe decades. At a higher rate than Cybertruck. Still a kick in the teeth. When Elon gave me the first ride in first Tesla he told me he wanted Tesla to make transportation much more affordable for everyone. Cybercab is the lowest cost per mile of any vehicle.
