Leap, built by the team behind Dialect and launched as a new Solana Labs product, has released a beta iPhone app aimed at trading tokenized stocks, ETFs, metals, currencies, and cryptocurrencies on Solana. Pitching the platform to users seeking opportunities beyond meme coins, the team opened early access on Thursday.[2][3][4]

Under the rollout plan, a portion of future platform fees generated by Leap is slated to be used to buy and burn SOL, according to SolanaFloor. Reporting by Crypto Briefing highlighted that integrating such a diverse array of assets could bolster the broader Solana ecosystem and potentially impact SOL's value through those burns.[3][5]

The release sparked immediate debate across the ecosystem concerning whether Solana Labs should be competing with third-party developers building on the network. Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko addressed the tension by stating that Labs is building a product that will compete with everything, while underscoring that Solana Labs operates separately from the Solana Foundation.[1]

Co-founder Raj Gokal explained that Labs created Leap in response to demand for an app prioritizing disciplined, long-term investing, network performance, and Solana-native assets, even acknowledging the field is intensely competitive. Meanwhile, Solana Foundation's Vibhu clarified that the Foundation did not build the app, pushing back against critics by remarking that builders who do not want their host chain to have users should just use Arbitrum.[1]
