Russia's Finance Ministry has issued salary payments in digital rubles for the first time to participating staff, as authorities work to integrate the central bank digital currency into the wider budget process.

Russia's Finance Ministry has paid wages in digital rubles for the first time, Coin Telegraph reported. According to Coin Bureau, employees who opted into the program opened accounts directly on the Bank of Russia's platform and received their initial digital ruble salaries on Oct. 1.[2][1]

The wage distribution occurred one month after Russia introduced the digital ruble to the public and several months after the European Union imposed sanctions on the currency, Coin Bureau reported.[1]

The Bank of Russia and the Finance Ministry are also working to bring the digital ruble into the wider budget process. That Martini Guy noted that the transition marks another step toward integrating central bank digital currencies into routine government payments, potentially expanding the currency's footprint across the public sector.[2][3]
