Russia approves Sberbank as crypto custodian ahead of planned December launch
Russia has registered its first crypto custodians and exchanges under a new regulatory framework, clearing its largest bank, Sberbank, to offer Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether products beginning Dec. 1.

Russia's central bank has officially registered its first cryptocurrency custodians and exchange operators under a new regulatory framework, with the country's largest financial institution, Sberbank, among the approved entities, according to reports from Coin Telegraph and Bull Theory. Sberbank stated that it is the first bank in Russia cleared by the Bank of Russia to custody Bitcoin and other digital currencies.[13][8][2][1]
Following the approval, Sberbank is preparing to launch products for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether starting Dec. 1, according to reporting by BlockNews, Watcher.Guru, and The Wolf Of All Streets. CoinGape reported that the banking giant plans to offer the new digital asset offerings directly through its existing digital banking platforms.[6][10][5][9][11][12]

Russia has registered its first crypto exchanges and custodians under its new regulatory framework. Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, is among the first institutions approved and plans to launch crypto products on December 1. This is a pretty significant step for crypto adoption in Russia. We’re now seeing a major state-backed financial institution move from simply acknowledging crypto to actively preparing regulated products around it. I think we’re going to see a lot more traditional banks entering the crypto market as regulation becomes clearer.
