Qualcomm to pay Huawei in multi-year 5G and AI patent licensing deal
Qualcomm has agreed to pay Huawei for patent licenses covering 5G and artificial intelligence in a multi-year deal that requires U.S. regulatory approval.

Qualcomm and Huawei have agreed to a multi-year patent licensing deal covering 5G, artificial intelligence, computing, and networking technologies, according to reports from Nikkei Asia and Reuters. The agreement marks the first time Qualcomm will pay patent licensing fees to Huawei and serves as the companies' first licensing pact covering 5G.[10][5][6][2]
The transaction includes more than 680 Huawei patents, encompassing intellectual property tied to Huawei's LogicFolding chip architecture, near-packaged optics, and 3D stacking technology. Alongside the licensing terms, Qualcomm will also purchase certain Huawei U.S. patents. The agreement remains subject to U.S. regulatory review.[8][7][11]
With the new arrangement in place, Huawei expects its cumulative patent licensing agreements to surpass 6.9 billion dollars.[3][4][9]
