OpenAI to test visual ads during ChatGPT image generation

OpenAI is set to begin testing a visual advertising format in ChatGPT in the United States later this month, placing labeled ads alongside its image generator.

OpenAI is introducing a visual ad format to ChatGPT, with U.S. testing scheduled to launch later this month among an initial cohort of advertisers. The visual promotions will initially appear while users generate pictures, displaying labeled placements alongside generated results.[1][3][4][5][7]

The company stated that the ad placements will be clearly marked and will not influence ChatGPT's generated answers. Alongside the new format, OpenAI is rolling out measurement tools for advertisers and collaborating with industry partners, working with Haus, Measured, and WorkMagic on ad effectiveness while evaluating brand suitability with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science.[2][5][8]
