U.S. intelligence agencies believe Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was targeted in an espionage operation by a Chinese businesswoman who developed a close relationship with him, according to a report by The New York Times. Officials identified the woman as Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore AI cloud company Megaspeed, alleging she acted as a Chinese intelligence asset to relay information to Beijing.[1][3][5][6][7]

Megaspeed was previously accused of helping smuggle $2 billion worth of Nvidia chips to China. U.S. intelligence reportedly briefed Donald Trump on the matter more than a year ago, but he chose not to act to avoid harming Nvidia sales or antagonizing China. The available reporting does not suggest Jensen Huang knowingly engaged in intelligence activity or detail the specific scope of the information passed.[2][6][7]

China denied the espionage allegation. Nvidia spokesman John Rizzo said that Jensen Huang's contacts with Alice Huang were routine customer meetings and that Megaspeed received ordinary business details rather than trade secrets or national security information, adding that Nvidia had previously investigated and dismissed claims that Megaspeed was smuggling chips.[4][7]
