AI startup Modal adopts Nvidia Vera CPUs for agent workloads
AI infrastructure startup Modal plans to deploy Nvidia's Vera CPUs alongside its existing Intel and AMD processors to host AI agents, advancing Nvidia's push into the central processor market.

AI infrastructure startup Modal plans to begin using Nvidia's Vera CPUs for the first time to host AI agents, according to a report by Reuters. The fast-growing startup, which previously relied entirely on central processors from Intel and AMD, will run the new Nvidia chips alongside its existing Intel and AMD hardware.[4][5][2][3]
The deployment represents a key move for Nvidia to capture enterprise infrastructure spending beyond GPUs. According to market commentator Shay Boloor, early testing indicated that Vera delivered approximately 2x capacity for AI agent workloads compared to Modal's previous processors.[1][2][3]
Boloor also reported that Nvidia is targeting roughly $20 billion in CPU revenue this fiscal year as AI agent workflows drive increased processor demand to continuously execute code and call tools. Beyond Modal and Perplexity, other major artificial intelligence companies and cloud providers including Oracle, OpenAI, and Anthropic reportedly plan to adopt the Vera chips.[1]
Key facts
- Modal plans to use Nvidia's Vera CPUs for the first time to host AI agents, operating them alongside existing Intel and AMD hardware.
- Early testing reportedly indicated that Nvidia's Vera CPUs provided twice the capacity for AI agent workloads compared to Modal's prior processors.
- Nvidia is reportedly targeting approximately $20 billion in CPU revenue for the current fiscal year.
- Modal and Perplexity are identified as AI-native customers for Vera CPUs, while Oracle, OpenAI, and Anthropic also plan to adopt the processors.

$NVDA just secured a Vera CPU deal with Modal, which previously relied on $AMD and $INTC processors after early testing reportedly showed 2x capacity for AI agent workloads. Another great example of how AI agents are making CPUs a much bigger part of AI infrastructure as they constantly run code and call tools giving Nvidia an opportunity to capture spending well beyond GPUs. Nvidia is now targeting ~$20B in CPU revenue this fiscal year as Vera gains traction with AI-native customers like Modal and Perplexity while $ORCL, OpenAI and Anthropic also plan to adopt the chips.
