Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is in discussions to secure cloud computing power from Nscale Ltd. in a transaction that could reach roughly $45 billion, according to Bloomberg. The talks involve delivering 460 megawatts of capacity using Vera Rubin chips at a second facility on Nscale's Monarch data center campus in West Virginia.[1][4][5][7][8]

The potential agreement would represent a second major contract between the two companies. Market commentator Shay Boloor reported that Anthropic previously signed a six-year, $45 billion deal with Nscale for an initial 460 MW at the Monarch campus, translating to approximately $16 million in annual revenue per megawatt. Google and Microsoft had also reportedly pursued the same site prior to that agreement.[2][3][4][8]

A finalized agreement could arrive as soon as the coming days and would strengthen initial public offering prospects for Nvidia-backed Nscale, according to financial newsletter The Kobeissi Letter citing Bloomberg. Crypto Briefing highlighted that while the negotiations illustrate massive demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, such arrangements also underline risks regarding project execution and revenue dependence on a small roster of clients.[6][9]

Anthropic is reportedly in talks for another 460 MW at Nscale's Monarch campus after already signing a $45B 6-year deal for the first 460 MW. That original deal works out to ~$16M in annual revenue per MW and with $GOOGL and $MSFT reportedly also pursuing the same site before Anthropic signed you can see how competition for large-scale AI compute clearly remains intense.
