Grayscale submitted a Form 8-K current report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on October 5, 2026, for the Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF. The filing formally brings BitGo Bank & Trust on board as an additional custodian for the HYPE tokens held by the HYPG fund. Crypto Briefing reported that diversifying custodianship could improve operational efficiency and security, influencing investor confidence and market dynamics.[2][3][4]

The filing drew mixed characterizations across the crypto community. While initial reports from outlets like Cointelegraph and crypto.news framed the submission as a filing for a Hyperliquid staking ETF offering token exposure and staking rewards, market commentator Kook noted that the ETF had already been trading on Nasdaq since June. According to Kook, the 8-K solely served to add BitGo as a second custodian.[2][5][3]

Alongside the custodian update, Analytics Insight reported that the HYPG fund manages around $217.8 million in assets and stakes nearly 90% of its HYPE holdings. Following the development, HYPE traded near $93.60 as its trading volume more than doubled.[1]
