Google commits $17 billion to build its first Wyoming data center
Alphabet's Google has announced plans to invest $17 billion to build its first data center in Wyoming, committing to cover all of its power consumption.

Alphabet's Google announced plans to spend $17 billion to build its first data center in Wyoming, formally placing a price tag on the project. The planned site in Laramie County marks the tech giant's first facility in the state, according to reports by Bloomberg and an announcement authored by Steve Walter, Google's vice president of global infrastructure and energy.[1][2][3][4][6][10]
Google confirmed it will pay for all the electricity consumed by the data center and will establish a Community Council to address local concerns surrounding the project's growth. To limit its environmental impact and conserve water, the data center will utilize an air-cooled system.[2][3][6]
The energy infrastructure planned for the project features a 702-megawatt fuel cell installation equipped with carbon capture, described as the largest planned development of its type to date. The deployment will use Bloom Energy fuel cells. The AI campus carries an initial planned power capacity of 2.7 gigawatts, which could eventually scale to as much as 10 gigawatts.[4][5][7][9]
Crypto Briefing reported that the massive infrastructure commitment could significantly increase local employment and foster broader economic growth, helping position the region as an emerging technology hub.[8]
