Google is reshuffling model availability across its Gemini subscription tiers for personal accounts. According to a Google support page, users without an AI subscription will lose access to the Gemini Flash and Pro models starting October 9, 2026, leaving them with access only to Flash-Lite.[1][3][4][6]

Paid tiers are also seeing adjustments. The support page indicates that users on Google's $4.99 AI Plus plan are losing access to Gemini Pro and will be limited to Flash-Lite and Flash models, as reported by The Verge. A report from 9to5Google noted that free users will specifically be restricted to the 3.5 Flash-Lite model, while Plus subscribers will be limited to 3.5 Flash-Lite and 3.6 Flash. Google stated that AI Plus subscribers will receive emails explaining when the adjustments take effect for them.[3][5][7]

Access to Gemini Pro will now be reserved for subscribers on Google's AI Pro and AI Ultra plans. At the same time, Google is adding the Deep Think reasoning mode to the AI Pro tier, according to reports from 9to5Mac and Analytics Insight.[2][3][8]
