Google strikes 3.6-gigawatt power deal with Constellation backed by nuclear upgrades
Google has signed a 20-year clean energy agreement with Constellation Energy covering roughly 3.6 gigawatts of capacity on the PJM grid, backed by more than $4.3 billion in nuclear reactor upgrades.

Google has contracted for up to 3.6 gigawatts (3,590 megawatts) of electricity from Constellation Energy on the PJM grid, the largest regional transmission system in the United States. Following early reports from Bloomberg and Reuters that the companies were negotiating a nuclear agreement valued at over $1 billion, the finalized pact locks in long-term power to fuel Google's data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure.[1][2][3][7][8][11][15]
The centerpiece of the arrangement is a 20-year commitment that directs more than $4.3 billion toward upgrading 11 existing nuclear reactors across three states. These uprates will add 890 megawatts of fresh nuclear capacity—an expansion equivalent to adding a full commercial reactor to the grid—with the first uprated nuclear power expected online in 2028. Alongside the nuclear uprates, Google secured an agreement covering another 2.7 gigawatts of supply from Constellation.[5][8][10][11][12][16][17]
Constellation Energy shares jumped around 14% after news of the partnership broke. The deal adds Google to Constellation's growing portfolio of hyperscale technology customers, which already includes Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon, as the AI buildout accelerates competition for round-the-clock, carbon-free energy.[4][6][8][9][14]
Key facts
- Google contracted for approximately 3.6 gigawatts (3,590 megawatts) of electricity from Constellation Energy on the PJM grid.
- The 20-year agreement is backed by more than $4.3 billion in investment to upgrade 11 existing nuclear reactors across three states.
- The reactor upgrades will add 890 megawatts of nuclear capacity—equivalent to a large reactor—with the first uprated output expected in 2028.
- The total power commitment includes a separate long-term agreement securing another 2.7 gigawatts of supply from Constellation.
- Shares of Constellation Energy climbed roughly 14% after the partnership was announced.
- The transaction establishes Google as another hyperscaler securing nuclear capacity through Constellation, alongside Microsoft and Amazon.

🇺🇸 Google is reportedly close to a $1 billion+ deal to buy nuclear power from Constellation Energy, and it could be announced as soon as this week. It'd be Google's 3rd nuclear move in about a year, after teaming up to restart an Iowa nuclear plant and signing a deal last month to upgrade 2 more. Constellation already powers Amazon and Microsoft, so it's basically becoming Big Tech's favorite power plug. AI needs so much electricity that tech giants are now shopping for nuclear plants like they're cloud servers 😆 Sources: Bloomberg, Reuters / Writer: Julie

$GOOGL & $CEG are reportedly nearing a billion-dollar nuclear power deal which would put all four major hyperscalers on Constellation’s book after $MSFT, $META & $AMZN. Wild seeing how existing nuclear capacity is essentially becoming an auction as AI companies compete for power they can actually get this decade.

Google $GOOGL contracted for 3,590 megawatts of power from Constellation Energy $CEG, including 890 megawatts of new nuclear capacity. The 20-year deal will drive more than $4.3 billion of investment to upgrade 11 existing reactors across PJM, the largest US power grid. At the same time, Google signed a separate long-term agreement for another 2,700 megawatts of supply from Constellation Energy. The first upgraded nuclear power is expected on the grid in 2028. $CEG jumped ~14% in morning trading. This follows a 690-megawatt Amazon $AMZN, deal Constellation Energy announced last week, backed by $3 billion of investment at Calvert Cliffs. Big Tech is now buying nuclear capacity directly to feed the AI buildout.
