German robotics startup RobCo reaches $1 billion valuation in secondary share sale
RobCo has achieved a valuation of more than $1 billion after selling roughly $40 million in shares, doubling its valuation in nine months amid surging investor demand for physical artificial intelligence.
Munich-based robotics startup RobCo has attained a valuation exceeding $1 billion following a secondary share sale of approximately $40 million, according to The Wall Street Journal. The transaction doubles the company's valuation from roughly $500 million in January 2026, when it raised $100 million, underscoring strong investor appetite for physical AI systems.[3][4][5][2]
The secondary sale consisted largely of employee-owned shares purchased by both existing and new backers. Returning investors included Sequoia, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greenfield, Kindred, Lingotto, and Promus Ventures, alongside new participants Cherry Ventures and European Tech Collective. Founded in 2020 by Roman Hölzl, Paul Maroldt, and Constantin Dresel, RobCo produces modular robot arms and industrial automation software. Early backer Christian Reber stated that his firm originally invested at the pre-seed stage when few investors were backing hardware startups, and Hölzl recently relocated to the United States to build operations on the ground.[1][4][5]
The company has deployed over 1,000 robots and logged more than 3.5 million operating hours. RobCo is currently completing development of Autonomous Alfie, a robot unveiled at Hanover Messe in April designed for safety-critical, unstructured factory floor operations. Initial customer deployments are slated for later this year, with Lightspeed indicating a target product launch in March.[5]
