DoorDash agrees to acquire Instacart in $17 billion grocery delivery deal
DoorDash has agreed to acquire rival Instacart in a cash-and-stock deal valued at roughly $17 billion, paying $65 per share to combine the top restaurant and grocery delivery platforms.

DoorDash announced on Thursday that it has agreed to acquire grocery delivery rival Instacart in a transaction valued at approximately $17 billion. Under the terms of the agreement, DoorDash will pay $65 per share in cash and stock, representing an 11% premium over Instacart's Wednesday close and a 26% premium relative to its closing price on Oct. 22, prior to reports of a transaction.[2][3][6][7]
Instacart shareholders may elect to receive cash, DoorDash stock, or a combination of both, with stock capped at 25% of the total consideration, according to financial service Wall St Engine. DoorDash plans to retain the Instacart brand, application, and enterprise technology offerings while merging DashPass and Instacart+ into a unified membership program. The companies project that the combined loyalty program could yield $100 million in annual consumer savings and grant Instacart shoppers access to more than 50,000 additional stores.[3]
Alongside the deal announcement, Instacart released third-quarter financial results, reporting revenue of $1.10 billion, up 17% year over year, and gross transaction value of $10.53 billion. Chief Executive Chris Rogers described the period as the company's best quarter as a public company. In light of the transaction, Instacart suspended guidance, withdrew prior long-term targets, and cancelled its scheduled Nov. 5 earnings conference call.[4]
DoorDash shares jumped sharply following the announcement, Barron's reported. The transaction is slated to close in late 2027 or the first half of 2028, subject to regulatory scrutiny and shareholder approval.[3][5]
