Crypto firms launch Quantum Alliance to set post-quantum security standards

Nine crypto organizations have launched the Quantum Alliance to develop open testing standards for quantum resistance as an estimated 6 million bitcoin face potential long-term vulnerability.

Nine cryptocurrency organizations have formed the Quantum Alliance, an initiative modeled on the Internet Engineering Task Force that aims to establish shared, open standards for verifying quantum-resistance claims across blockchain networks and wallets.[1][2][3]

The group's formation comes as forecasts anticipate the first practical quantum attack could arrive in the late 2020s. Alliance members warn that roughly 6.04 million BTC, or about 30% of Bitcoin's supply, is currently considered "quantum-exposed at rest," although no quantum machine capable of cracking those assets exists today.[1][2]

The coalition consists of Quantus, American Fortress, Intmax, Keystone, Midnight Foundation, Postquant Labs, Abelian, The Vault, and Hacken. The alliance plans to define unified testing criteria to verify which digital asset platforms and storage tools are genuinely prepared for post-quantum cryptographic requirements.[2][3]
