Token2049 opens with Cardano compliance standard, Superstate Asian expansion and post-quantum custody rollout
Day 1 of Token2049 featured several major institutional announcements, including the Cardano Foundation's mainnet launch of its CIP-0113 compliance standard, Superstate's expansion into Asia, and a post-quantum custody initiative between Project Eleven and the Zcash Foundation.

The Token2049 conference opened with a wave of institutional product and infrastructure announcements, according to posts by journalist Jacquelyn Melinek. Looking ahead to long-term event growth, conference organizers revealed that Token2049 will establish a New York City edition in June 2027 as its third permanent flagship alongside Singapore and Dubai.[1][8]
Among technical updates, the Cardano Foundation announced on mainnet the launch of CIP-0113, a programmable token standard designed for regulated assets. The standard allows issuers of stablecoins, funds, and bonds to embed KYC, AML, sanctions screening, and freeze-and-seize capabilities directly into native assets without requiring a hard fork. The Cardano Foundation also confirmed that the Swiss Capital Markets and Technology Association (CMTA) now treats CIP-0113 Programmable Asset Tokens as equivalent to its CMTAT smart contract for certification.[2][4][5][6][7][9][10]
In asset tokenization, Superstate announced plans to expand its $1 billion-plus onchain capital markets offering into Asia, providing tokenized funds and ETFs across Ethereum and Solana alongside direct capital-raising mechanisms. Meanwhile, Gyld Finance unveiled plans to bring individual USD corporate bonds onchain to serve curators, protocols, and asset managers building fixed-income instruments.[1][8]
Addressing long-term cryptographic security, Project Eleven launched Strongpoint, an infrastructure platform engineered for post-quantum key management. The Zcash Foundation signed on as Strongpoint's initial development partner to shape custody architecture for shielded ZEC tokens, with production deployment scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.[1][3][8]

CARDANO $ADA FOUNDATION LAUNCHES NEW PROGRAMMABLE TOKEN STANDARD, ENABLING INSTITUTIONS TO ISSUE TOKENIZED ASSETS WITH KYC, AML AND TRANSFER RESTRICTIONS ENFORCED DIRECTLY ONCHAIN

Cardano is introducing a new token standard that gives issuers much greater control over how assets can be managed. The standard is designed for regulated stablecoins, funds and bonds, allowing issuers to build features such as identity checks, sanctions controls and the ability to freeze, seize or restrict transfers directly into the asset. This could make Cardano more attractive for regulated financial assets moving onchain, but it also highlights the trade-off between regulatory compliance and the permissionless nature of crypto. We think tokenised real-world assets will increasingly require these kinds of controls if they are going to integrate with traditional financial markets.

Cardano’s Programmable Token Standard Goes Live With Built-In KYC and Freeze Controls The Cardano Foundation announced on Wednesday at TOKEN2049 that CIP-0113 , Cardano’s programmable token standard, is live on Cardano mainnet . Issuers of stablecoins, tokenized funds, bonds and other regulated assets can now build compliance rules, including KYC and AML checks, sanctions screening, freeze and seize powers, and transfer restrictions into their tokens, with the Cardano ledger enforcing the rules each time a token is transferred, minted or burned. The Foundation said the standard followed joint development with Cardano community experts and the completion of multiple independent security audits . Its statement did not name the auditors. The standard required no hard fork. Get Unchained’s crypto news in your inbox with the free Unchained Daily newsletter . How the Standard Works Tokens issued under CIP-0113 stay native Cardano assets . The standard is built on Cardano’s extended UTXO (EUTXO) ledger model and attaches the compliance logic to the token itself, according to the Foundation. Once integrated, wallets, explorers and applications can treat the tokens like any other Cardano asset, it said. Execution costs remain predictable however many inputs a transaction has, the Foundation said. Issuers can pick modular rule sets, which the Foundation calls modules, or write their own, and update them as regulation changes without altering the core standard. Eternl, GeroWallet, CardanoScan and BloxBean supported the launch. Frederik Gregaard, the Foundation’s CEO, said the design relies on the network itself: “Programmable tokens on Cardano remain native assets on the ledger, with compliance enforced by the network itself rather than by a wrapper or a closed system.” He said the launch is aimed at institutions picking a blockchain for tokenization, including banks, fund managers and stablecoin issuers, and “moves the conversation from what Cardano could do to what it does.” The Foundation also pointed to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which it said have identified programmability as central to the next generation of tokenized financial markets. Swiss Recognition and Background Separately, the Foundation’s statement said it and the Swiss Capital Markets and Technology Association (CMTA) announced that CMTA now treats Cardano’s CIP-113 Programmable Asset Tokens as an equivalent to its CMTAT smart contract for certification purposes. The tokens carry the mandatory functions that the CMTAT framework lists and may be used to certify that ledger-based equity securities meet CMTA’s standards, the Foundation said. The Foundation released its Programmable Tokens Platform and the open-source CIP-0113 reference implementation on March 9, with a live preview on Cardano’s Preview testnet. At the time it said a professional audit of the core smart contracts was a necessary step before any production use. The Foundation said it will keep working with projects and institutions building on the standard, including continued work on a securities module for regulated financial instruments. Cardano Opens The Door to Compliant Programmable Tokens Cardano’s (@Cardano) CIP-0113 programmable token standard is now live on mainnet after multiple independent security audits. The standard lets issuers build KYC, AML, sanctions screening, and transfer restrictions directly into native tokens. Stablecoins, tokenized funds, bonds, and other regulated assets can use these compliance features. Cardano’s ledger enforces the rules whenever programmable tokens are transferred, minted, or burned. The standard requires no hard fork and allows issuers to update compliance modules as regulations change. The Cardano Foundation says the technology is designed to support regulated assets on public blockchains.
