Canton Network super validators have approved governance proposal CIP-0129, according to Digital Asset co-founder Yuval Rooz. The proposal, authored by Digital Asset's Shaul Kfir and Five North's Yiannis Varelas, replaces direct software license payments to Digital Asset with an expanded token-burn structure across MainNet synchronizers.[3][1]

Under the approved proposal, all live synchronizers—the nodes that order and confirm network transactions—will pay for traffic by burning Canton Coin at the Global Synchronizer list price of $60 per megabyte. Previously, only the shared Global Synchronizer burned coins, while dedicated, privately run synchronizers paid fees directly to Digital Asset.[1][2][3]

The policy switch opens the network to permissionless operators, allowing anyone to run a synchronizer while enabling applications and validators operating on them to earn rewards. Network rollout is targeted for the first quarter of 2027, with volume discounts scheduled to follow around the third quarter of 2027.[1][2]

🚨CANTON’S UNIVERSAL BURN VOTE PASSED, MORE CC TO BE BURNED! The Super Validator vote on CIP-0129 has passed, per Digital Asset co-founder @YuvalRooz. Implementation is next. It expands canton-network:native burns to dedicated synchronizers on MainNet, which previously paid license fees instead of burning. All production traffic will now burn canton-network:native at the Global Synchronizer list price, bringing more institutional activity into the burn economy. Targeted for Q1 2027.
