Bitcoin consolidates around $84,000 following multi-month high weekly close
Bitcoin marked its highest weekly close in eight months above $84,000 and defended a key support zone, even as rising bond yields and falling consumer confidence pressured the macro environment.

Bitcoin closed its weekly candle above $84,000, registering its highest weekly close in eight months and moving up 45% from its June low, according to crypto account Bull Theory. Crypto Rover similarly reported that Bitcoin reached its highest weekly close since January, while David Hoffman noted that the weekly close landed above the token's May high.[6][4][5]
Analyst Benjamin Cowen observed that while closing above the May high marks a point for the bulls, Bitcoin remains less than 1% above that level. Cowen highlighted that price movement after clearing the 50-week line has been considerably more muted than in 2019 and 2023, when Bitcoin gained 20% to 30% within one to two weeks, attributing the sluggish response to fears of seasonality and climbing yields that typically weigh on long-duration assets.[3]
Broader financial headwinds appeared as the U.S. 30-year Treasury bond yield reached a 24-year high, after which Bitcoin bounced to $84,000 and consolidated following early-week losses while defending a trend-defining support zone, Coin Telegraph reported. Meanwhile, CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin turned lower as rates increased and the Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index dropped in September to its lowest level in over a decade amid expectations of weakening business and labor conditions.[2][1]

Bitcoin closed above the May high, which is technically a point for the bulls, and the burden of proof remains with the bears to prove otherwise. Given that BTC is still <1% away from the May high, it makes it hard to jump to conclusions going into Q4 (as much as I would like to do so). I thought that maybe by now it would either have accepted back below or be much higher, but instead price has barely moved. Usually after passing the 50W like in 2019/2023, BTC then runs 20-30% within 1-2 weeks. This time, the move has been much more muted, probably because of fears over seasonality and yields heading higher (which is often bearish for long-duration assets like crypto). Kind of a frustrating time to be honest, because on one hand what makes sense to me would be weakness into Q4, but BTC continues to show strength, making me sincerely question that view. And historically, the weakness often starts before Q4 arrives (which it has not yet so far this time). I suppose I should be less deterministic about my views going forward, as this whole move has been extremely humbling.
