Binance Pay rolls out crypto payments at PayPay merchants across Japan

Binance announced that eligible overseas visitors can now use Binance Pay to spend cryptocurrency at PayPay merchants across Japan via HIVEX, with local stores receiving settlement in Japanese yen.

Eligible overseas visitors can now use Binance Pay to make purchases at PayPay-supported merchants across Japan, according to an announcement from Binance reported by The Block and CoinMarketCap. The integration allows travelers to spend cryptocurrency, including Tether (USDT), without having to convert funds into Japanese yen first.[1][2][4][5]

The transactions function through HIVEX, a platform that connects overseas QR payment networks with PayPay merchants. Japanese merchants will continue to receive settlements in yen through existing payment infrastructure and do not need to separately opt in to accept Binance Pay transactions. Binance claimed it is the first cryptocurrency payment service to use HIVEX to access PayPay merchants.[2][4][6]

According to Coin Telegraph, the service enables overseas users to spend more than 100 cryptocurrencies. The rollout arrives as Japan continues to attract millions of international visitors each year, with Watcher.Guru reporting that the deployment covers millions of PayPay-supported merchant locations across the country.[3][6][7][8]
