Binance reserves over $6.34 billion in company funds to cover historic hack
Binance has set aside more than $6.34 billion of its own capital to make users whole following a major security breach, holding $5 billion in the affected tokens while buying the remainder on the market.

Binance has reserved more than $6.34 billion in corporate funds to cover all user losses stemming from a record security breach, the exchange announced. The company confirmed it already holds $5 billion in the exact crypto assets that were affected, while the remaining balance is being acquired through open-market and over-the-counter channels.[1][2][4][5][9][16]
The reserved funds are completely separate from approximately $3 billion in affected assets that have already been frozen with the help of industry partners. U.S. law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Secret Service, have joined the response to trace and recover the stolen cryptocurrency alongside blockchain intelligence firms.[2][3][4][12][13][16][17]
Binance CEO Richard Teng stated that customer assets remain safe and that the breach only impacted the exchange's own hot wallet. Teng explained that the intruder evaded standard approval controls by utilizing an EIP-7702 delegation and a self-destruct mechanism. Co-CEO Yi He noted in a video update that withdrawals were halted after the Thursday attack and are slated to reopen within 42 hours once systems are verified as secure, with Teng aiming to restore withdrawals by Sunday ahead of a full Proof of Reserves report targeted for Monday.[6][7][11][14]
Industry figures have weighed in on the exchange's response. MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor highlighted that Binance committed its own balance sheet to ensure customers are made whole, expressing confidence that the company will deliver and that the crypto industry will emerge stronger and more resilient.[8][10]
