BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes has proposed a derivatives market framework for Flop Network designed to turn artificial intelligence compute into a tradable commodity. According to posts from CoinMarketCap and BSCNews, the blueprint proposes futures contracts settled against FRCR, a FLOP-denominated reference rate for computing power.[1][2][3]

Hayes argued that AI computing power currently lacks a universal benchmark price. His proposed model relies on task-level data to price computing capacity in FLOP on the Solana blockchain, which he says could form a global benchmark and unlock a broader derivatives market. Flop Network is currently building decentralized memory and payment services geared toward autonomous AI agents.[3]

The market design targets a rapidly expanding industry, with Boston Consulting Group estimating that AI compute spending could surge from $360 billion in 2025 to $2.3 trillion by 2030. According to on-chain tracking account Lookonchain, Hayes' vision for the compute market arrived shortly after he liquidated roughly $22 million worth of personal altcoin holdings.[2][3]
