Amazon is retiring its Fire tablet branding after 15 years and replacing the devices with a redesigned lineup called Alexa Tablets. The new series consists of three aluminum models: the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, the Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and the Amazon Alexa Tablet 8. According to The Verge and WIRED, these are Amazon's first tablets to run full-fledged Android with out-of-the-box access to the Google Play Store.[1][3][4][5][9][10]

The overhauled tablets are built to compete with high-end iPads, incorporating Alexa+ features and support for a new stylus and keyboard, Bloomberg reported. The devices ship on October 14, with the top-tier Alexa Tablet 12 Pro priced at $499, as reported by The Verge.[4][6][7][11]

Alongside the standard models, which have also launched in Canada, Amazon is introducing kid-friendly editions of the Alexa Tablets that include curated content and parental controls.[2][8][9]
