Waymo reportedly targets 20,000 robotaxis by end of 2027

Waymo plans to double its autonomous vehicle fleet to 8,000 by the end of 2026 and reach 20,000 by the end of 2027 following a recent $5 billion debt raise, according to a report from Semafor.

Autonomous driving company Waymo plans to rapidly expand its robotaxi operations, aiming to grow its fleet to 8,000 vehicles by the end of 2026 and to 20,000 by the end of 2027, according to a report by Ellen DiMauro of Semafor citing sources. The company currently operates approximately 4,000 vehicles.[3][4]

The aggressive rollout follows a $5 billion debt financing raised earlier this month. Waymo plans to deploy the borrowed capital to support vehicle manufacturing and deployment as it launches commercial driverless services in new cities.[4]

Reaching 20,000 robotaxis would represent a quintupling of Waymo's current fleet. Market observers noted that with the fleet currently averaging about 125 paid rides per vehicle per week, expanding to 8,000 and eventually 20,000 vehicles could position Waymo to deliver roughly 1 million weekly rides even without increases in vehicle utilization.[2][5]

$GOOGL Waymo reportedly plans to grow its fleet to 8K robotaxis by year-end and 20K by the end of 2027. At its current rate of 125 paid rides per vehicle each week that would put Waymo on track for 1M weekly rides without any improvement in utilization. https://t.co/P94mLE2PXi
