US government transfers $103 million in seized bitcoin and BNB to Coinbase Prime and fresh wallets
Wallets linked to the U.S. government transferred roughly $103 million in seized cryptocurrency, sending over 833 bitcoin to Coinbase Prime and shifting 40,285 BNB, though no sale has been confirmed.

Wallets linked to the U.S. government transferred approximately $103.2 million worth of seized cryptocurrency on Tuesday, according to blockchain data tracked by Arkham and Onchain Lens. The transactions moved roughly 833.6 bitcoin, valued at around $71.6 million, to Coinbase Prime, alongside 40,285 BNB, valued at approximately $31.6 million, sent to an unlabeled address.[1][4][6][8]
Arkham transaction labels and Onchain Lens tied the moved funds to prior high-profile government seizures. The bitcoin transfers consisted of roughly 568.7 BTC forfeited in the wire fraud case against HashFlare operators Sergei Potapenko and Ivan Turõgin, as well as about 264.9 BTC connected to the Bitfinex hack. The 40,285 BNB originated from assets seized from FTX and Alameda Research.[3][4]
No sale has been confirmed, and neither the Department of Justice nor the Treasury Department has made an official announcement regarding the purpose of the transfers. Because Coinbase Prime provides institutional custody in addition to trading services, market observers noted the movement could reflect routine custody management rather than liquidation. The moved amount accounts for less than 1% of the government's tracked crypto holdings, which total roughly $27.5 billion to $28 billion.[2][4][5][7][9]

A March 2025 executive order says government bitcoin deposited into the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve “shall not be sold.” That language applies to coins placed in the reserve. The same order creates a separate Digital Asset Stockpile for digital assets other than bitcoin that the Treasury Department owns and that were finally forfeited, and says the Treasury secretary “shall determine strategies for responsible stewardship” of it.
