Tesla announced that production of its Optimus humanoid robot has officially begun on high-volume lines at its factory in Fremont, California. According to a manufacturing update released by the company, units now coming off the line are the first production-quality units it has built, demonstrating that its current manufacturing process is suitable for a commercial product even as hardware iterations continue.[5][8][4][2]

The company's capacity disclosures classify Fremont Optimus manufacturing as in an early ramp stage, while an Optimus line in Texas remains under construction. Chief Executive Elon Musk stated that Tesla has already installed the vast majority of a 1-million-unit annual line at Fremont. Musk described the production trajectory as an erratic S-curve with 10,000 things that need to go right, but set a target to reach roughly 20,000 robots per week within a year, pacing toward approximately 1 million units annually heading into 2028 if manufacturing scales as planned.[5][3][1][6]

Alongside the manufacturing launch, Tesla shared additional automation timelines during its earnings call, as reported by Teslarati. Management projected that Optimus should achieve stable and useful operation in roughly 14 months. The company also announced that its Robotaxi service is scheduled to launch in Dallas next month, customer Cybercab deliveries are anticipated by the end of the year, and Full Self-Driving take rates at delivery climbed to 75%, up from 55%.[7]

Overall thoughts on Tesla $TSLA Q3 Earnings: Analysts were pretty good with estimates for this Q, but call was very bullish in general. A lot of great takeaways including Cybercabs to customers by EoY, Optimus developments, AI5 comparison to AI4 and that timeline, Dallas to get Robotaxi next month, and many more. Really exciting future ahead as long as Tesla executes, and there’s really no reason to believe they won’t. Timelines are the only thing skeptics can really bring up; yes, Tesla is late to things quite frequently but they ultimately do deliver. Tesla FSD take rate is insane at delivery and up to 75%, up from 55%. People are buying Teslas for FSD because they are ready to automate their travel. It’s safer and it’s easier than human driving. It seems Elon is going to be well on his way to crossing off that tranche from his latest compensation package. Optimus should be ready for pretty stable and useful operation in 14 months, which is awesome. This was a great call. Between the SpaceX call and the Tesla call, fans and investors have a lot to be excited about.
