Google Cloud London outage hits Revolut and European banks
A power-related disruption at Google Cloud's London data center knocked out services for digital banking platform Revolut and multiple UK lenders before recovery efforts brought systems back online.

A widespread Google Cloud outage in its London-based europe-west2 region triggered disruptions across banking, delivery, and online platforms on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The incident began around 06:08 GMT following a power event that caused elevated errors and intermittent network failures across dozens of cloud products.[2][5][9]
Fintech giant Revolut was heavily impacted, with around 30 services facing outages, including card payments, transfers, account sign-ins, and crypto and stock trading. The disruptions affected millions of customers across the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, and Singapore, leaving users temporarily unable to access accounts or pay with cards. Outage submission platform Down Detector also registered disruption reports for traditional UK institutions, including Lloyds Bank, HSBC, Bank of Scotland, and Halifax.[1][2][3][4][10]
Revolut confirmed the service disruption stemmed from an infrastructure issue and reassured customers that all funds and personal data remained safe. Google Cloud stated that the underlying power issue was mitigated and advised affected customers that workloads could be migrated to other regions. By 12:10 GMT, roughly six hours after the disruption began, Google Cloud services had largely returned to normal operation.[2][6][7][8][9][11]
