Nvidia eyes retrofitting old telecom buildings for AI data centers, report says
Nvidia has approached Apollo Global Management about converting old telephone facilities owned by telecom firm Brightspeed into a network of small AI data centers across up to 20 states.

Nvidia has approached private equity firm Apollo Global Management to discuss retrofitting old telephone buildings into a network of small artificial intelligence data centers, according to a report by The Information. The initiative targets properties owned by Brightspeed, a struggling internet service provider owned by Apollo.[2][3][4]
The proposed rollout could potentially span up to 20 U.S. states and incorporate some of Brightspeed's portfolio of more than 130 buildings. The strategy is aimed at providing a faster way for Nvidia to deploy and power its processors by utilizing locations that already possess existing power access, fiber connectivity, and municipal zoning.[1][2][4]
Repurposing legacy telecom real estate also serves as a workaround to rising regulatory challenges and public backlash confronting large new data center developments.[1][5]
