Government contracts will account for less than 10% of SpaceX's total revenue during the current quarter, according to comments made by Elon Musk on November 6, 2026. Musk also noted that electric vehicle maker Tesla holds no government contracts.[1][6]

The sub-10% figure marks a continued decline in SpaceX's reliance on public funding. According to a Bloomberg report cited by Techmeme, U.S. government contracts accounted for 16.6% of SpaceX's revenue last quarter and approximately 20% across 2025. Musk projected that the government's share of revenue will fall below 5% within a year.[2][3][4][5]

Musk emphasized that SpaceX remains open to walking away from federal agreements if requested, writing that the company is happy to cancel any contracts that the government does not want.[4][5]

Elon Musk says government revenue will account for less than 10% of $SPCX this quarter and $TSLA has no government contracts. And I think that matters for a potential SpaceX and Tesla merger because combined company would be overwhelmingly commercial with its real political exposure coming through regulatory approvals rather than government contracts.

🚀🇺🇸Elon: “Happy to cancel any that the government doesn’t want. Just say the word!” SpaceX delivers the best product at the lowest price and government revenue is already a tiny (and shrinking) part of the business. “Government revenue will be less than 10% of SpaceX revenue this quarter and less then 5% a year from now.” Democrats threatening him is just pathetic and pointless.
