Google and Unity launch Playground AI platform to build browser games from text prompts
Google has partnered with Unity to release Playground, an experimental browser platform allowing users to generate, modify, and play video games using text prompts.

Google and game engine developer Unity Software have launched Playground, an experimental browser tool that allows users to create playable video games directly from simple text prompts without writing code. The platform, developed with Google Labs, supports the creation of both 2D and 3D games and is powered by Google AI models including Gemini, Lyria, and Nano Banana.[3][10][8][2][4][6][14]
Using typed instructions, creators can define game genres, adjust physics, modify environments, rewrite rules, and alter characters. Playground also incorporates sharing options and community features. The platform is free for anyone to browse and play existing gallery games, but creation access is currently restricted to adults aged 18 and older in the United States and tiered across Google AI subscription plans.[15][12][6][7][9][13][14][8]
A more complex Unity-powered version is also on the way, according to reporting by VGC. Media outlets such as Bloomberg noted that the release marks another major step for generative AI into creative industries, while market commentators suggested the collaboration expands Unity's reach against rival creator ecosystems.[1][10][11][5]
