Google takes over Crusoe's Project Tembo data center site in Wyoming
Alphabet's Google has acquired a major data center project site in southeast Wyoming from AI computing firm Crusoe, stepping in after the startup reportedly struggled to secure customers.

Alphabet's Google has bought out a massive data center development site in southeast Wyoming from AI infrastructure startup Crusoe, opting to manage and construct the development directly. According to reporting from Bloomberg, the tech giant chose to take control after Crusoe struggled to secure customers, including Google itself, for the facility.[1][3][4]
The buyout follows Google's announcement just a day prior of a $17 billion investment in the development. Known as Project Tembo and previously called Jade, the site sits near Cheyenne and covers roughly 716 acres.[2]
Current project plans outline a total power capacity of 2.7 gigawatts across four data center halls and accompanying support facilities. The site's initial data halls are slated to open in the second half of 2028, with the full buildout expected to finish by 2031.[2]
