Fidelity report highlights Solana resilience while warning of centralization risks
A report from Fidelity's research arm FCAT finds Solana has maintained an unbroken two-year uptime record, but warns that concentrations in stake, hosting, and client software pose systemic challenges.

Solana has demonstrated notable resilience and improved network health over a two-year stretch without reported mainnet outages, according to a report published by Fidelity's research and development arm, FCAT. Titled 'The State of Solana: Network Health and Resilience,' the assessment found that while the network is maturing rapidly, stake concentration introduces systemic risks that could threaten network stability and decentralization.[1][2][3][4]
The report detailed substantial growth and performance gains across the blockchain, citing sub-cent priority fees, live 200-millisecond slots, and an upcoming Alpenglow upgrade targeting 150-millisecond finality. In addition, real-world assets on Solana expanded fourfold to $4.4 billion, stablecoin volume reached $16 billion, and exchange-traded funds and corporate treasuries now account for 8% of all circulating SOL.[2]
Despite these operational benchmarks, the report flagged several structural concentration concerns. Just 20 validators control more than 33% of the network's stake, while validator operating expenses exceed $60,000 annually with a breakeven threshold of 200,000 SOL. Geographical and infrastructure dependencies also remain high: 40% of stake is clustered in Frankfurt and Amsterdam, single data center provider TeraSwitch hosts 29% of stake weight at more than 120 million SOL, and the ecosystem remains heavily reliant on Agave and Jito software code.[1][2][4]
Key facts
- Fidelity research division FCAT published a report titled 'The State of Solana: Network Health and Resilience.'
- Solana has recorded zero mainnet outages in over two years.
- Real-world assets on Solana grew fourfold to $4.4 billion, alongside $16 billion in stablecoins and 8% of SOL held in ETFs and treasuries.
- Solana currently operates with 200ms slots, with the upcoming Alpenglow upgrade targeting 150ms finality.
- Validator operations require over $60,000 per year with a 200,000 SOL breakeven, and 20 validators control over 33% of network stake.
- Data center host TeraSwitch holds 29% of SOL stake weight, representing over 120 million SOL, with 40% of total stake concentrated in Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
- Fidelity flagged client and software concentration as an ongoing risk, noting Solana code remains heavily dependent on Agave and Jito.

Fidelity, an asset manager with $7.1 trillion in AUM ($18.0T AUA), dropped a major Solana health report through its R&D arm, FCAT. Key takeaways: The Good: • Zero outages in 2 years • Real-world assets up 4x to $4.4B; $16B in stablecoins • 8% of all SOL in ETFs and treasuries • 200ms slots live; upcoming Alpenglow targets 150ms finality • Sub-cent priority fees The Risks: • High barrier: $60k+/year validator costs, 200k SOL breakeven • 20 validators control >33% of stake • 40% of stake concentrated in Frankfurt and Amsterdam; TeraSwitch alone hosts 29% • Software still heavily tied to Agave/Jito code Once plagued by frequent outages, Solana now has an unbroken 2-year uptime record. Coupled with high speed and sub-cent fees, it marks a rapidly maturing network. Now it's real test is decentralization. Source: FCATT - The State of Solana: Network Health and Resilience
