Anthropic is committing an initial 5% of its shares to launch the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, according to company statements reported by Bloomberg and other outlets. The artificial intelligence firm stated that the initiative is intended to support the public good, including efforts to mitigate the impact of AI on the job market, through large donations to traditional nonprofits or direct distributions to specific populations.[1][3][9][11][12][13]

The fund is structured as a wholly owned limited liability company that cannot engage in lobbying. Its equity holding is designed to expand alongside corporate growth, with the vehicle eligible to receive up to an additional 2% stake for every 50% rise in Anthropic's valuation, subject to board approval. Combined with staff pledges and a commitment from Anthropic's co-founders to donate 80% of their own equity, roughly 20% of the company's shares are slated for public-benefit dedication.[3][4][6][7][8]

Anthropic said the structure will grant the fund increased scale and flexibility to advance its corporate mission in new ways. The announcement also drew commentary from Elon Musk, who responded on X by suggesting that the company give its shares directly to the public instead of allocating them through a fund mechanism.[5][9][10]
