Chinese tech giants order over $35 billion in Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 GPUs, reports say
ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent have placed orders for more than 3 million export-compliant Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 GPUs worth over $35 billion, according to Reuters, though supply bottlenecks could leave partners with a fraction of their requests.

Chinese tech giants ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent have placed orders for more than 3 million of Nvidia's new RTX PRO 5500 graphics processing units, totaling more than $35 billion, according to sources cited by Reuters. The massive orders highlight an aggressive push by Chinese firms to secure export-compliant processors for their artificial intelligence infrastructure amid tightening U.S. export restrictions on advanced chips.[1][2][3][5]
The export-compliant RTX PRO 5500 chips cost approximately $11,400 each and are primarily tailored for AI inference workloads. Overall Chinese demand for the hardware has reportedly exceeded 6 million units, far outpacing Nvidia's projected global manufacturing capacity of no more than 3 million units in 2027 as production resources shift toward its next-generation Rubin chips.[3][4][6]
Faced with severe supply constraints, Nvidia has reportedly cautioned partners that they might receive only 5% to 10% of their requested orders. Commercial deliveries of the workstation GPUs are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027, and the current reported order values do not constitute confirmed sales or guaranteed shipments.[3]

$NVDA is reportedly seeing over $35B in RTX PRO 5500 orders from ByteDance, $BABA and Tencent as Chinese tech giants look to secure AI chips under U.S. export restrictions. Whats wild is that these GPUs use GDDR7 instead of HBM allowing Nvidia to serve China's inference market without taking memory or advanced packaging capacity away from Rubin. And with Chinese demand reportedly exceeding 6M GPUs against just 3M planned for global production in 2027, the opportunity could be massive if export approvals and shipments actually materialize.
