Hackers behind the $6.3 billion Binance exploit had access to the exchange's systems for approximately eight weeks prior to the theft, according to assessments from cybersecurity group Security Alliance, also known as SEAL. Attackers reportedly infiltrated Binance's infrastructure in September before executing the breach on October 29.[1][2][4][5]

SEAL noted that the incident followed a multi-stage intrusion pattern observed in other high-profile cryptocurrency thefts, including the $388 million exploit of crypto exchange Bitget. Solid Intel reported that SEAL linked the extended access window to North Korea-linked actors.[5][6]

Appearing on CoinDesk's Policy Protocol, SEAL researcher Taylor Monahan characterized the breach as a sophisticated heist where attackers remained undetected inside internal networks for weeks on end, as the industry scrambled to trace and freeze stolen assets.[3]
