Binance France to close customer accounts by year-end after missing MiCA authorization

Binance France is winding down customer accounts by Dec. 31, 2026, following its failure to secure authorization under the European Union's MiCA framework, prompting warnings for users to withdraw funds before fees begin.

Binance France is set to shutter customer accounts on Dec. 31, 2026, after failing to secure authorization under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory regime. Binance notified customers that its French entity must wind down its accounts because the MiCA transition period concluded before it could obtain the required license.[1][2][3][6]

Deposits to Binance France have already been suspended, though user balances remain accessible for withdrawal through the end of the year. Starting Nov. 29, accounts that still hold balances will incur a monthly maintenance fee of 0.025% of the remaining cryptocurrency balance or 10 USDC, whichever is greater.[2][3][4][6]

Any crypto assets left in accounts after the final Dec. 31 deadline may be converted or transferred under Binance's terms of service. According to a customer email reported by Cryptoast, the closures specifically target accounts registered with the Binance France entity, rather than shutting down access for all French users on Binance's global exchange.[3][6]

The wind-down may also extend beyond France. CoinDesk reported that users in other European nations, including Spain and Poland, have received similar notices directing them to pull their assets before fees take effect ahead of year-end account closures.[5]
