Toto Finance requests $5 million from Cardano treasury for copper reserve

Toto Finance has submitted a proposal asking Cardano's community treasury for 22 million ADA, worth approximately $5 million, to fund a copper reserve that requires copper prices to surge for the treasury to break even.

Toto Finance has requested 22 million ADA, valued at approximately $5 million, from Cardano's community treasury to purchase copper, according to reports from CoinDesk and BSCN. The proposal outlines plans to acquire tokenized and physical copper and hold the metal for up to two years before selling it.[1][3]

The allocation would consume more than half of the Cardano treasury's remaining withdrawal allowance, BSCN reported. Under the structure of the request, roughly two-thirds of the capital would go toward purchasing physical copper, while the rest would cover operational costs, storage, insurance, and audits. Toto Finance would also retain the commercial rights to its separate tokenized copper business.[1]

There is no guarantee that the treasury will recover its original capital. According to BSCN, Toto Finance's own models project that copper would have to climb from $6.73 to about $10.06 per pound—trading well beyond its all-time high—to recoup the full withdrawal if the dollar price of ADA remains unchanged. Crypto Briefing highlighted that the impending vote serves as a test for the Cardano treasury, balancing the funding of ecosystem innovation against engaging in speculative asset bets.[1][2][3]
