Tether holds approximately 150,000 bitcoin valued at more than $11.5 billion, Chief Executive Officer Paolo Ardoino revealed during his keynote speech at the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano. Addressing the company's holdings, Ardoino quipped that the firm holds roughly that amount and described the position by stating, "It's not much but it's honest work."[6][7][3]

The disclosed stash is about 50,000 bitcoin larger than implied by Tether's latest reserve report. Ardoino did not explicitly detail where the extra coins are held, but holdings kept outside USDT backing, such as corporate investments, do not appear in stablecoin reserve attestations. Tether routinely allocates up to 15% of its quarterly profits toward bitcoin purchases and has expanded into bitcoin mining and open-source infrastructure.[3][5][8][2][1]

During the presentation, Ardoino also claimed that Tether serves over 730 million users globally while onboarding around 30 million new wallets each quarter. According to Tether's Q3 2026 attestation, the company holds roughly $122.8 billion in U.S. Treasury bills directly—or $132.4 billion including repurchase agreements—with excess reserves near $7.95 billion. Ardoino also outlined the firm's broader Independence Stack initiative, which spans energy, mining, peer-to-peer communications, self-custody wallets, and on-device artificial intelligence.[6]
