Tesla has dropped its Full Self-Driving name across Europe, updating its regional websites to Tesla Assisted Driving as it seeks regulatory clearance following criticism that the branding was misleading.

Tesla has begun replacing its "Full Self-Driving" moniker with "Tesla Assisted Driving" across its European websites. The shift comes as the electric vehicle maker seeks continental regulatory clearance, backing away from branding that has drawn criticism from officials and observers for potentially misleading drivers about the vehicle's autonomous capabilities.[2][3][4][5][1][6][11]

The rebranding followed pushback from Germany, according to TechCrunch. Following the change, Germany's transport minister will support European Union-wide approval for the software. However, EU-wide approval remains pending, and drivers are still required to continuously supervise the technology while it is active.[7][4]

While Tesla is adopting the new terminology to satisfy European authorities, Quartz reported that the company plans to retain the Full Self-Driving name for the system in the United States.[9][10]
