Standard Chartered has launched a cryptocurrency trading service in the United Arab Emirates, allowing eligible affluent and professional clients to trade bitcoin and ether directly through their existing bank accounts. The move makes Standard Chartered the first international bank in the UAE to offer direct crypto trading through its clients' bank accounts.[3][1][4][7]

The service relies on an internal closed-loop architecture where Standard Chartered oversees end-to-end custody and settlement. The bank said this structure removes the need for customers to manage external crypto wallets or use third-party platforms, lowering exposure to third-party wallet security risks.[3][5][6][4]

The trading offering secured regulatory approval from Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority. Standard Chartered has indicated plans to widen access to more market participants as it expands its crypto services in the region.[1][4]

Standard Chartered is making it easier for wealthy investors to buy Bitcoin. Eligible professional investors in the UAE can now trade BTC and ETH directly through their existing bank accounts, without needing separate wallets or third-party platforms. When a major international bank brings crypto trading into its existing services, it makes digital assets more accessible to traditional investors. I expect more banks to follow as demand for Bitcoin continues to grow.
