OpenAI is planning to merge the Chat and Work tabs in its ChatGPT desktop application into a single unified interface, according to TechCrunch reporter Ivan Mehta. The ChatGPT desktop app currently divides features across ChatGPT and Codex sections, with separate Chat and Work tabs residing within the ChatGPT portion. Under the planned change, Codex will continue to remain a standalone experience.[2][4]
The consolidated interface aims to bring together instant chat functionality and agentic work features into one environment, Neowin reported. The update is slated to deploy initially to a select group of users before rolling out more broadly across the desktop platform.[1][2][4]
Alongside the desktop tab consolidation, OpenAI is also retiring its ChatGPT Classic app, according to 9to5Mac.[3]
