OpenAI reportedly races to raise $30 billion ahead of Anthropic IPO

OpenAI is accelerating an effort to secure roughly $30 billion in private funding at a valuation topping $1.4 trillion before rival Anthropic's anticipated mid-November initial public offering.

OpenAI is moving rapidly to lock in investor commitments for a private funding round of about $30 billion that could value the artificial intelligence company at more than $1.4 trillion, according to sources reported by Reuters and Bloomberg. The fundraising push represents a steep jump from OpenAI's $852 billion valuation recorded in March.[1][2][3][4][5][8][10]

The urgency is driven by Anthropic's expected public market debut in mid-November. OpenAI reportedly intends to close the round before Anthropic's public disclosures allow investors to directly benchmark the two competitors. Anthropic had sought a $2 trillion valuation, though some investors have pushed for a figure closer to $1.5 trillion.[4][7][8][11]

SoftBank Group, Abu Dhabi-based MGX, and other existing backers are in discussions to participate in OpenAI's round. OpenAI held meetings with long-only funds and sovereign wealth funds last week while Anthropic hosted its own investor day. To support the valuation, OpenAI has reportedly told investors that it generates $50 billion in annualized revenue and is targeting $70 billion by the end of the year.[3][6][9][11]
