Meta reports GitHub breach exposing code and data of 1,500 people
Hackers leveraged a stolen employee login to breach private GitHub repositories at Meta, taking source code and personal data affecting roughly 1,500 individuals.

Meta disclosed that attackers accessed its private GitHub repositories and stole software code along with personal data linked to roughly 1,500 people, the majority of whom are Meta employees based in the United States.[5][3][4]
The unauthorized intrusion was carried out using an employee's stolen credentials. According to Meta, business data such as software code made up 99% of the exfiltrated material, while the remaining 1% consisted of personal information. The company noted that storing sensitive personal details within the code repositories violated its internal policies.[1][2][3]
In response to the compromise, Meta terminated the unauthorized access, notified law enforcement agencies, and began providing dark web and credit monitoring services to those impacted.[3]
