Lumentum optoelectronic components sold out through early 2029 on AI data center demand
Lumentum's optical components are completely sold out through early 2029 as technology companies rush to build faster AI data centers, according to CEO Michael Hurlston.

Optical component manufacturer Lumentum has completely sold out its optoelectronic parts through early 2029 as tech companies demand faster hardware for artificial intelligence data centers, according to Bloomberg and Wall St Engine. Speaking in Tokyo on Friday, Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston said the company cannot meet approximately 70% of demand for certain products through next year, Quartz reported.[4][3][5]
Hurlston declared that Lumentum can currently supply only 30% of what it is being asked to provide as optical demand continues to accelerate into 2027. He noted that an industry transition to co-packaged optics (CPO) and near-packaged optics (NPO) is driving laser demand far beyond existing manufacturing capacity, with supply unlikely to catch up until 2030.[1]
The persistent supply deficit in optoelectronic components could hinder the broader expansion of AI infrastructure and force companies to prioritize which projects move forward, Crypto Briefing reported.[2]
