Isomorphic Labs in early talks to raise funding at up to $50 billion valuation

AI drug discovery startup Isomorphic Labs is in early negotiations to raise new capital at a valuation between $40 billion and $50 billion, according to reports.

Isomorphic Labs, the AI-powered drug discovery startup spun out of Alphabet's Google DeepMind, is in early talks to raise fresh funding at a valuation of at least $40 billion, Bloomberg reported citing people familiar with the matter. Additional reports indicate that the valuation could reach as high as $50 billion.[1][2][3][4][5]

The discussions follow a $2.1 billion Series B financing round completed five months earlier. That round was led by Thrive Capital, alongside participation from Alphabet and sovereign funds from Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. Demis Hassabis stepped down as Google DeepMind CEO in August but continues to lead Isomorphic Labs while also serving as Alphabet's chief scientist.[5]

Isomorphic Labs leverages AlphaFold, the breakthrough AI model that solved 3D protein structure prediction in 2020 and earned Hassabis and John Jumper the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The company uses the technology to design drugs, starting with treatments for cancer and immune disorders, and has secured pharmaceutical partnerships with Eli Lilly and Novartis. Crypto Briefing noted that the surge in valuation underscores growing investor appetite for AI drug discovery even though Isomorphic Labs still lacks clinical data.[5][6]

SITUATION EXPLAINED: Isomorphic Labs, Demis Hassabis's AlphaFold spinout, is in talks to raise at a $40 to $50 billion valuation. • It raised a $2.1B Series B just 5 months ago, led by Thrive Capital, with Alphabet and sovereign funds from Singapore, the UAE and the UK • Hassabis stepped down as Google DeepMind CEO in August but still runs Isomorphic, on top of being Alphabet's chief scientist • AlphaFold 2 cracked protein folding in 2020, predicting a protein's 3D shape from its amino acids, and won Hassabis and John Jumper the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry • Isomorphic uses AlphaFold to design drugs with AI, starting with cancer and immune disorders • Weight-loss drugs alone made Eli Lilly a $1T company, so AI that works across many drug categories could be huge. Lilly and Novartis are already Isomorphic partners @theojaffee: "If AI can actually help with drug discovery meaningfully, and Isomorphic Labs is able to capture some of this value, and it's able to do it across more fields than just one, then it could be huge."
